PAPERFOLK AND THE MISCHIEVOUS INSOMNIAC
With MELCHIOR MARTIN AND THE RUMINATORS + PAPERFOLK AND FRIENDS
The Workers Club (Fitzroy, VIC)
Tuesday, 28 July 2026 7:00 pm
Come down to the Bergy Bandroom for a night of an eclectic array of original music, from folk to funk. From both Melbourne-based Australian bands, to international performers, this night is being hosted by Paperfolk Theatre, a new company based between Scotland and Australia championing emerging folk artists' work. This gig is in fundraising support of the company's production of the new folk musical 'Our Seventh String', which is travelling to the Edinburgh Fringe this August to make its UK debut.
The first support act of the night stages Paperfolk and friends, featuring original acoustic folk from 'Our Seventh String' writers Lauren Green, Emily Napolitano, and more.
Melchior Martin and Ruminators are a lush sounding folk quartet with rich harmonies, thoughtful lyrics and engaging and colourful arrangements. Largely a family project that grew out of extended family camping trips to the desert, where music, old and new, was constantly played around the campfire, resulting later in various ensembles that played in the Melbourne cafe and pub circuit in the 90's and 2000's and more recently in 'Melchior Martin and Ruminators'.
And headlining our night is the Mischievous Insomniac. They are a band influenced by afrobeat, funk, jazz, ambient, and psychedelic genres and love to incorporate politics into our narrative. Whilst speaking from the heart, they encourage people to express themselves through dance.
Come down and support local musicians and new independent theatre that's going international this August!
